Unknown cable consisted of 2 red, 2 black, and a ground wire?

I recently removed some blank face plates from the walls of my house and have found that behind each one is an uncapped, unmarked, gray cable consisting of two red, two black, and a ground wire. The cable also is shielded and I have found the other end of these cables in the basement of my house. Any ideas what this could be. I would assume a power cable of some type but have no idea.
